Allawah Community Care are providers of a range of Aged and Disability Services that are available to the residents of Coolamon Shire, some of these services include self-care retirement village living, home and community care transport, residential respite and residential care options. 

 Coolamon is a regional township with a population of approximately 2200 people and is located in the Riverina region of South-Western NSW, approximately 5 hours from Sydney and Melbourne and 40 minutes from Wagga Wagga NSW. 

To work with the Community Care Manager, Allawah Community Care Coordinator/s, and other Home Care Employees to provide the highest level of quality of care and assistance to the clients of Allawah Community Care.

This role will primarily revolve around transport of clients to appointments and other social commitments they may have however some light home care and personal care needs may also need to be met to ensure that the service delivered is excellence!

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide transport for Clients to and from their homes to appointments, social outings and other approved places/events.

  • Provide physical assistance for clients with personal care needs whilst being mindful of the client’s dignity and self-esteem. 

  • Reminding with personal grooming including cleaning teeth/dentures, brushing hair, applying make-up, shaving etc

  • Participating in assigned quality assurance activities.

  • Ensuring that any messages or letters are passed to the client promptly, assistance may be required with the reading and comprehension of the correspondence and getting in touch with client representatives as required,  assistance with writing letters, making appointments, using the phone.

  • Observing and reporting to the Community Care Coordinator anything unusual concerning clients e.g. not eating or drinking, unusual urination, bowel irregularities, changes in attitude, temperature, etc.

  • Any other duties as directed and considered relevant to the role and area of responsibility.

 Position Criteria

Qualifications, Certificates and Licences

  1. Willingness to complete all Mandatory training

  2. Class C Drivers licence and ability to gain passenger transport licence (https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/application-passenger-transport-licence-code)

  3. Police Clearance

  4. Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain

  5. COVID19 Vaccination and Influenza Vaccination certificate/s or medical exemption

 Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  1. Previous Aged Care Experience

  2. Numeracy and literacy skills to a standard usually associated with Year 10

  3. Communication skills necessary to liaise with other staff, relatives, Social Workers, Community Organisations, Medical Officers, Paramedics and other outside agencies.

  4. Good understanding of continuous improvement, WHS and Risk Management

  5. Knowledge of aged care issues and policy directions.
