Be road safe this harvest season
Harvest has started across the Shire which brings more trucks and large machinery onto our local roads.
Farmers often need to use public roads to move machinery between paddocks and trucks are transporting grain. Please take extra care and give these larger vehicles plenty of room.
Slow down and stay alert - Expect more trucks and slow-moving farm machinery on local roads. Watch for vehicles entering and leaving paddocks, and adjust your speed to suit the conditions.
Give larger vehicles plenty of space - Keep a safe following distance. Trucks and oversized machinery may need extra room to turn, cross bridges or move around roadside obstacles.
Be mindful of blind spots - Trucks and large machinery have bigger blind spots, so their drivers may not always be able to see you.
Be patient when overtaking - Only overtake when it is legal, you have a clear view and there is enough room to complete safely. If you’re unsure, hang back and wait.
Slow down, be patient and share the road. Let’s keep everyone safe this harvest season.
