Spring Into School Holidays
Each school holidays, Coolamon Shire Council’s Community Development team delivers a program designed to engage, support and connect young people across the Shire — and this spring program certainly did not disappoint.
Thanks to funding secured through the NSW Government, Council was able to deliver a fun and diverse program for young people aged between 12 and 24 years. More than 50 young people participated in activities designed to build confidence, learn new skills and create opportunities for social connection within their local community.
Council partnered with businesses to deliver three activities throughout the spring school holiday period.
Ashleigh from Little Black Duck showed 15 young people how to make their own candles using soy wax and delicious smelling scents to choose from. Participants took home two candles and a tray of mini candles.
We also had Jody from Art & Ceramic’s with Jody G deliver a two day workshop making fridge magnets. Day one was about shaping and molding the air dry clay into their own creative designs before coming back the following day to paint their creations.
To finish off the program we had Serinah, Tanner & Lawson from GRIT Gym deliver an ‘Athletes Academy’ program which included a nutrition session learning about how to fuel your body and healthy eating habits. Once the nutrition session was done, everyone got to work, putting in a solid session with a spin class, gym workout and a dip in the ice bath and heating up in the sauna.
Council would like to thank the NSW Government for its support, along with the local businesses and facilitators who helped make the spring school holiday program such a success. Providing opportunities for young people to try new activities, develop skills and connect with others is an important part of building a strong and inclusive community. Council looks forward to continuing to deliver meaningful programs that support the wellbeing and development of young people across the Shire.
