APPRENTICE HORTICULTURIST

Kickstart your career in Horticulture with Coolamon Shire Council!

We are seeking a motivated, reliable and enthusiastic first year Apprentice Horticulturist to join our Parks and Gardens team.

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, has an interest in plants, gardens and the environment and is keen to develop practical skills while completing their Horticulture apprenticeship.

Working alongside our experienced Parks and Gardens team, you will gain hands on experience in the maintenance and care of Council’s parks, gardens and public spaces.

DUTIES OF THE ROLE

  • Parks and gardens maintenance

  • Mowing and general grounds maintenance

  • Gardening and landscaping

  • Planting and pruning

  • Tree and vegetation management

  • Weed and pest management

  • Irrigation maintenance

  • Learning to safely operate and care for equipment and machinery

  • Maintaining high standards of presentation across public spaces

ABOUT YOU

  • Has a genuine interest in Horticulture, gardening and working outdoors

  • Good communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn

  • Ability to undertake heavy manual work in all weather conditions

  • Reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Works well in a team setting

  • Committed to workplace health and safety

  • Willing to undertake a Cert III in Horticulture
