Minister for Local Government Visits Coolamon Shire

Coolamon Shire Council recently welcomed the Minister for Local Government the Hon. Ron Hoenig MP, for a productive day of discussions and site visits within the shire.

The visit began with a Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC) meeting and presentation, followed by a roundtable discussion with the Minister and the Member for Cootamundra, the Hon. Steph Cooke MP. Conversations focused on key issues facing local government, including financial sustainability, Code of Conduct, Code of Meeting Practice and other matters impacting Councils across the region.

Following the meeting, Council hosted both the Minister and Steph Cooke on a tour of several community facilities managed by Council, including Allawah Lodge within the Coolamon Health Precinct, the Coolamon Early Childhood Centre, Jim Thompson Sporting Fields and the Coolamon Up-to-Date Store Precinct.

Mayor David McCann OAM said the visit was a valuable opportunity to showcase the important facilities and services Council provides for the community.

"It was a pleasure to welcome Minister Hoenig to Coolamon Shire and provide an insight into the diverse range of facilities Council manages. These visits help demonstrate the important role local government plays in delivering essential services and maintaining vibrant communities.

“The Minister expressed an appreciation for visiting rural communities where he could see first-hand how Councils work with their communities to provide for the services that are needed.

From caring for our older residents at Allawah Lodge to supporting local families through the Early Childhood Centre, these services are important to the wellbeing of our community. Council is helping create a community where people can live, raise a family and age with confidence, ensuring our shire continues to thrive and grow.”

Before the Minister's return to Wagga, the tour concluded with a visit to the newly renovated Coolamon Hotel, showcasing the impressive renovations and the contribution the iconic venue makes to the town's local economy and visitor experience.
