Youth Week 2026 Wrap Up
Each year, Coolamon Shire Council’s Community Development team delivers a program designed to engage and support young people across the Shire — and this year’s Youth Week program did not disappoint.
Thanks to funding secured through the NSW Government, Council was able to deliver a range of free activities and opportunities for young people aged between 12 and 24 years. The program provided participants with opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence and connect socially within their local community.
The annual YouthFest was once again a highlight of the week, attracting around 120 young people to the outdoor space of the Up-To-Date Store in Coolamon. The event created a safe, inclusive and fun environment for young people to enjoy a variety of activities including outdoor games, a photo booth, henna tattooing, food vendors and live music from a DJ.
As part of Youth Week, Council also partnered with PCYC to deliver a Safer Drivers Course for young people holding a learner’s licence. Ten participants took part in the course, which provided a safe and engaging learning environment followed by a driving lesson. At the completion of the course, participants received 20 hours towards their driving logbook, helping them move one step closer to obtaining their driver’s licence. Access to driver education and licensing opportunities is particularly important in rural communities, where independent transport can significantly improve access to employment, education and social connection.
Coolamon Shire Council would like to thank the NSW Government for its continued support in funding these valuable activities and opportunities for local young people.
